Ganguly & Associates

Newsletter (Q3, 2002)

Welcome to the Second Newsletter of Ganguly & Associates. Since our last newsletter, much has happened.

Is Growth Back in Fashion

Recent activity in the market would suggest that while business growth is uneven, confidence is starting to return in the market, and that market growth is coming back into fashion. This is further reinforced by a new Forrester report which has found that IT budgets are stablizing and that IT budgets in North America will be 2.3% higher than last year. Further, C-level sentiments on high-tech spending are softening. Some 55 percent of respondents described executives at their companies as willing to "spend what it takes" on IT. Six months ago, only 36 percent felt that way.

Progress with Virtual Team

We now have over 10 people on our Virtual team, with a mix of skills ranging from Project Directors, Project Managers, Business Analysts, Technology Architects, Subject Matter Specialists, Marketing Communications specialist and Business Modelling.

This allows us to deliver concurrent projects for eBusiness (Strategy & Scoping; Project & Venture setup; and Implementation), as well as working with Technology companies to grow revenues through focussed Growth Strategy and Implementation Planning.

Both areas are of particular importance as Governments and Corporates continue to drive business benefits from eBusiness in a practical manner, and as Technology companies put the difficulties of the past year or two behind them to focus on on growing their revenues into the future.

Whitepapers

We have also prepared a number of whitepapers in response to requests from clients and industry bodies.

Broadband

There has been a lot of activity in this area, both in the Government and Private Sectors. In March of this year, NOIE (The National Office for the Information Economy) formed the Broadband Advisory group(BAG). The Broadband Advisory Group has been formed to provide high level advice to Government on broadband development and also to act as a vehicle for fostering communication between stakeholders on both the supply-side and demand-side of broadband. This Advisory group is chaired by The Commonwealth Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts. In response to a recent BAG call for Public Submissions on Broadband Issues, Ganguly & Associates prepared a response, which can be found under the whitepapers section of the site. Our view is that there is a general lack of understanding how Broadband will benefit Australian business. We have titled this paper Broadband - An Australian Industry Development Perspective.

eProcurement

eProcurement, or Online Purchasing is another area which we do not hear a lot about today. At the height of the dot com boom, there were many extraordinary claims made about this technology, yet very little emphasis was given to the Business considerations involved. Since those times, A number of large corporates have been making steady progress in taking their purchasing processes online. Those that have taken the time to understand the business issues involved have had a fair degree of success. At Ganguly & Associates, we have developed a whitepaper which attempts to answer many of the business issues and to demystify the process for the SME's and mid-size corporates. We hope you find our paper "eProcurement - Relevance to Australian Business" of value to you.

Security and Authentication Framework

A third are of focus is in Security and Authentication. Once again NOIE has been holding public consultations in this key area, and we have produced a third whitepaper to address the demand side drivers, titled - Towards an Australian Authentication Technology Framework.

Keep checking back, as more will be appearing soon.
